In this article I will review the ChatGPT x Ideation Ebook of Erik van der Pluijm. Erik is the guy behind all the great canvases and valuable content at wrkshp.tools. He has contributed to a couple of books from the Business Models Inc. team.

Ebook: ChatGPT x Ideation for Innovators, Product Teams and Startups (wrkshp.tools)
No doubt that AI-tools like ChatGPT will impact our professional lives in many ways, and despite working for a global software firm (and not a startup) I think this is a highly relevant Ebook for many (creative) professionals and (corportate) innovators out there. So let’s have a look at the structure of the book:

Double Diamond Design Process
Erik van der Pluijm “chose to focus on the double diamond design process” because it is widely known and used. More background information and details can be found on the website of the British Design Council in which the explain it as Framework for Innovation.
“The Double Diamond model is a design process developed in 2005 by the British Design Council. It is divided into four phases: discover, define, develop, and deliver. The Double Diamond is a guide for understanding design problems and communicating solutions.”
In any (innovation) process, we as humans are struggling against our own limitations, that show up in the form of cognitive biases. For every stage of the Double Diamond Design process, human participants have to deal with different cognitive biases. Generative AI and ChatGPT can help mitigate negative outcomes from these biases.
Please note the book “The Neuroscience of Selling by John Asher“, that focusses on cognitive biases in the sales process. In the book Design a Better Business the used double loop model is based on a design thinking process, and has a similar step flow as the double diamond design process.
Case Study: Sleeping Problems
The power of the e-book is in the description, structure and approach of the prompt engineering in the various stages of the Double Diamond Design process: discover, define, develop, and deliver. The page above shows the case study conclusion on a single page.
The key aspect here is not just reading about it, but going through the different stages and using the ChatGPT prompts yourself. Doing is building experience, and this experience is where the real value will come from in your professional life (where you are always ideating to solve problems).
This is for me the essential of chapters 4, 5 and 6.
Business Model Canvas – ChatGPT Prompts
What I think is really amazing is the use of ChatGPT in an attempt populate some well known and widely used models, like the Business Model Canvas (based upon the book Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder, Yves Pigneur, PAtrick van der Pijl, Tim Clark and Alan Smith.
While it will not be the 120% perfect and accurate population, it will help you building a first or second draft, that you can iterate.
ChatGPT Prompts – Value Proposition Canvas
Another well known book from the Strategyzer team is called “Value Proposition Canvas.” Cornerstone of this book is the Value Proposition Canvas, the middle key building block from the Business Model Canvas.
The main goals of the Value Proposition Canvas tool are to:
- Precisely define your customer profiles (customer-jobs, pains, gains)
- Visualize the value you create (gain creators, pain relievers)
- Achieve product-market fit (producst and services)
In the picture above you can not only see the populated outcome Value Proposition Canvas, but you can also see the prompt used to get it.
Customer Journey – ChatGPT Prompts
A little while ago I connected with Nienke Bloem, Customer Experience Expert. I took some online trainings to get a better understanding of how a customer journey needs to be defined.
Erik van der Pluijm did an amazing job of building (and explaining the approach) for building a customer journey map with ChatGPT. It was part of the case study !
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
Erik van der Pluijm has published a highly relevant “workbook” around the use of AI and ChatGPT from OpenAI. It is written in the format of a case study around “Sleeping Problems” and follows the four stages of the double diamond design process. In each of these stages is ChatGPT used.
It is not only very inspirational by showing the possibilities in a case study, but also going beyond by showing some examples of populating tools like the Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition Canvas or Customer Journey Map. I’m sure it will also work for other tools like the Operating Model Canvas or the Process Model Canvas.
The price point of the Ebook ChatGPT x Ideation is € 35,00 which is reasonable and fair for a high quality workbook like this. Given the track-record and involvement of Eric van der Pluijm in Design a Better Business and Business Model Shifts, you cannot go wrong.
Please have a look at WRKSHP.tools which is a perfect repository with tools and canvases to deliver kick-ass workshops and drive innovation in a systematic way. I personally think that the Business Model Patterns are an awesome resource if you work with the business model canvas.
